She next played for the Seattle Washington Sounders Women now the Sound FC. Rapinoe was in France for the 2013 season. She then joined the National Women's Soccer League NWSL (formerly the WPS) that was formed as a following the dissolution of the WPS. In the years 2015 and 2019 her contributions have helped players from the U.S. Women's World Cup winning team achieve consecutive championships. The year after, she was named cocaptain. Rapinoe was the one who had two points for the United States in the 4-3 win over Australia during the bronze Olympic medal match in Tokyo in 2020, due to the COVID-19 virus which Japan had to delay until 2021 as a result of this pandemic, also took home the gold medal in Tokyo in 2016.
